We’re excited to announce that our Move Work Forward with Jira app for Microsoft Teams now supports both shared channels and private channels - making collaboration across teams, projects and even external partners easier than ever.
What’s new
- Seamless integration into shared channels: whether you’re working across multiple teams or with external guest partners, you can now bring Jira updates, issue cards, and actionable tasks into a shared space.
- Full functionality in private channels: for those confidential projects or tight-knit squads, you can still embed Jira issue views, receive notifications, search and act on issues - all within a private channel locked to your selected members.
- One workspace, fewer tool switches: All your work, updates and discussions stay in Teams. You can configure and filter notifications from Jira, search issues, create/edit tickets and maintain context - without constantly jumping between apps. Why this matters
- Boosted transparency: Stakeholders, cross-functional teams and partner organizations can stay in sync right where conversations are happening.
- Reduced context-switching: Project chats, issue details, comments and transitions can all live inside Teams - so you spend more time doing work and less time navigating tools.
- Adaptable for any setting: Whether it’s a tightly governed private channel for critical projects or a shared channel spanning multiple teams and orgs - you’re covered.
How to get started
- Install the Move Work Forward with Jira app from the Teams App Store (or via the Microsoft AppSource listing). Appsource – Business Apps.
- Add the bot/app to your desired Team and channel (shared or private). help.moveworkforward.com
- Configure your notification filters, issue cards, channel tabs or message actions to suit your workflow.
- Explore creating Jira tabs in Teams, embedding issue lists, and taking Jira actions (comment, assign, transition) all within Teams.
- For shared channels: ensure your Teams setup allows shared channel creation & the app is permitted in those scopes.
Quick pro-tips
- Use private channels for high-sensitivity work so only invited members see the content.
- Use shared channels when collaborating across functional teams (e.g., dev + QA + product) or even across org boundaries.
- Set up a Jira-tab in the channel: display filtered issue lists (e.g., “My open bugs”, “High-priority epics”) so everyone sees the right view.
- Fine-tune notification rules so your channel only receives alerts that matter - no noise, just signal.
We believe this update will significantly streamline how your teams work with Jira and Teams together. If you’d like a personalised walkthrough, or have questions about setup (especially around shared vs private channel best practices), just let us know.
