How do I connect the Microsoft Teams to Bamboo Server or Data Center?

You can use Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector by Move Work Forward in two ways:

  • Uni-directional. With the uni-directional way all data is stored in your Bamboo's database, and you use Incoming Webhook Connector in Microsoft Teams to receive notifications, alerts and reports in a particular Microsoft Teams channel directly from Bamboo. You cannot interact with those cards in Microsoft Teams, because data flows only one way from Bamboo to Microsoft Teams. This way is the most secure and provides you with more control over your data that sent outside. The messages are going from your Bamboo Server to Microsoft Teams servers directly.
  • Bi-directional. Two-way communication enables data flow in both directions, and not only your team can receive data in Microsoft Teams from Bamboo, but also send data to Bamboo from Microsoft Teams. Such integration permits more different flows where users can perform some actions in Bamboo directly from Microsoft Teams. This way requires to have two apps: a Bamboo App/plugin and another is a Microsoft Teams app. The main complexity here is to map user accounts between Microsoft Teams and Bamboo. The user mapping stored in Move Work Forward secure cloud environment on AWS.

We use Bamboo Server / Data, and we are curious whether the App stores our information somewhere outside our Bamboo?

If you use uni-directional (incoming webhooks) integration Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector for Bamboo Server or Data Center, Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector does not store anything outside of your Bamboo instance(s).

Otherwise, Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector stores the following information:

  • the mapping between your Bamboo and Microsoft Teams tenants
  • the mapping between Bamboo account and Microsoft Teams account

Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector persists this information to act-on-behalf of Microsoft Teams user.

Could I use the Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector without Bamboo admin rights?

Definitely yes, you can use Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector without being the Bamboo administrator. However, you may need some help from your Bamboo administrator to configure the application in some circumstances.

Does everyone within the Microsoft Teams channel see the data I am sharing via Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector?

When the team members reside in a Microsoft Teams channel, they can view all data posted in there.

I do not receive notifications from Microsoft Teams Bamboo connector for Bamboo Server / Data Center.

When you have problems with Microsoft Teams Bamboo Connector not sending messages to Microsoft Teams you can try the following:

  • Create a test channel in Microsoft Teams
  • Create an Incoming Webhook URL
  • Create a test build in Bamboo
  • Setup the most straightforward rule possible on successful build. Use the Incoming Webhook URL you created earlier. Have a script like exit 0.

If after those steps you do not receive a notification in Microsoft Teams, it is possible that your Bamboo server(s) cannot reach the Internet and Microsoft servers. The easiest way to test this is to open the terminal on your Bamboo server and try to post a test message directly to Microsoft Teams https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/platform/webhooks-and-connectors/how-to/connectors-using#setting-up-a-custom-incoming-webhook

As a next step, we advise to follow up our documentation related to the troubleshooting and contact us with the log file.

What to do if I do not receive replies for my support requests?

It depends on your permissions in Jira. When you have sufficient privileges, you can access the following pages:

We are humans who have families and hobbies, on top of this, we inspired to provide the best integration between Microsoft Teams and Bamboo, which requires time and effort to execute well. Notwithstanding these arguments, we strive to provide excellent customer support.

How do I get help?

Please use our Jira Service Portal (called F1) to submit a support request, feature request or just an enquiry. Do not forget to describe your problem in great details and attach the debug log if possible. We cannot guess about your issues.

How can I extend my trial license?

At this stage, only Bamboo Server and Bamboo Data Center customers can extend their evaluation licenses. You can do this by completing this form and updating your product license under the "Manage Add-ons" page in the Admin panel.

Only a small number of people within my team will be using the app. Am I able to purchase a license for only these people?

When purchasing an app license, the user tier must match that of Atlassian Bamboo. This is a requirement of the Atlassian Marketplace, as detailed in this Atlassian FAQ. Atlassian handles all licensing for Marketplace vendors so we can focus on what is important to us - providing quality software and supporting our customers. As a result, we are unable to modify the licensing to be restricted to specific user groups within a Bamboo instance.

I purchased a license for the wrong Move Work Forward app, could you please switch my licenses?

All licensing matters are handled directly through Atlassian, so, unfortunately, there is nothing we can do as vendors to rectify this. Please reach out to sales@atlassian.com and open a ticket directly with Atlassian, they will be able to resolve this for you.
