Autodesk Inventor Place Fasteners
Add blots, screws, fasteners to your assembly in a couple clicks.

Place Fasteners offers a selection from a wide range of fastener sets, with up to 5 materials available for each set. Users can configure the Content Center library or connect their own custom library files as the source for fastener parts.

Set the thread size and bolt length based on the selected holes or slots. The Autodesk Inventor app analyzes clearances and checks for clashes upon fastener insertion. Fastener sizes are selected from the available range in the user's library.

Fasteners can easily be propagated through all holes or slots on a face, with the possibility of including them in an existing feature pattern. Fasteners can be placed as individual occurrences or as an assembly unit.
Automatically place fasteners from the user library or Content Center. Users can connect to the application any kind of parts: normal Autodesk® Inventor® parts, parametric parts, imported from 3rd parties etc.
A mechanical engineer designs industrial equipment with hundreds of bolted connections. Each assembly requires specific fastener types based on load requirements, material compatibility, and industry standards. The engineer spends significant time manually placing and configuring each fastener.
The challenge: Placing fasteners in Autodesk Inventor requires multiple steps - selecting the hole, choosing the fastener type, setting the size, and configuring the length. For an assembly with 200 bolted connections, this repetitive process takes hours and introduces errors when the wrong size or type is selected.
How Place Fasteners helps:
The result: Fastener placement that took 3 hours now takes 30 minutes. Assembly BOMs are more accurate because the tool ensures the correct fastener specification for each hole.
A product design team iterates on a machine frame design over several weeks. Each revision changes hole patterns, plate thicknesses, and load requirements. When the design changes, all fasteners need to be updated to match the new specifications.
The challenge: After a design change, the engineer must manually check every fastener to verify it still matches the updated hole size and grip length. In a complex assembly, some fasteners get missed. The manufacturing team discovers mismatched fasteners during production, causing delays and rework.
How Place Fasteners helps:
The result: Design revisions no longer introduce fastener errors. Manufacturing receives assemblies with verified fastener specifications, eliminating rework from incorrect bolt lengths or types.
A manufacturing company generates bills of materials from Inventor assemblies to order fasteners in bulk. The procurement team relies on accurate BOMs to place orders with suppliers, and any errors result in production delays when the wrong fasteners arrive.
The challenge: When engineers place fasteners manually using generic parts or simplified representations, the BOM does not reflect the exact fastener specification. Procurement orders based on incomplete descriptions, leading to wrong sizes, grades, or head types arriving on the shop floor.
How Place Fasteners helps:
The result: Fastener procurement errors drop to near zero. The procurement team trusts the BOM data and places orders directly without double-checking with engineering, saving days on each project cycle.
